re: Terrainset: Yeah definitely, I've been trying to learn more about natural rock formations to do them well enough but it is a slow process (and not a terribly motivating one since they are kinda hard to prototype).

I'm using photoshop CS6 because there are a few nifty tricks like using the curves to get the colours right and using wrapped displacement to get a tiling texture.

When doing the post on coast, bear in mind the limit of 10000 characters per post! I didn't know it at the time and spent about the same time shortening my post as I needed to making it.
The above diagram is a possibly misleading simplification: Sediment that's carried in the stream is another crucial factor actually adding another dimension to the diagram.
