Hey JJAiken,

Thanks for your patience; happy to see you being proactive about learning our style and trying new builds. Your newer houses are already a big improvement and a good starting point. I'll just give feedback on the two newer houses, since they're closer to our server's style:

Farmer house

- The exterior looks pretty nice, but avoid framing daub & timber blocks with another material like wood planks. The house should be either one or the other, i.e. all wood planks or all daub & timber.

- Make sure the timber patterns are not random (like on this side), but instead follow a clear pattern (generally symmetrical).

- Try to make the thatch roof a bit less messy; usually you just want to make a 45-degree roof using stairs, and just add very minimal variations. Too much noise and the roof will just seem lumpy.

- The interiors seem good - just avoid using full log blocks for rafters, since they look very bulky. We pretty much avoid using log blocks in houses whatsoever now.

Oldtown house

- Overall pretty well done! The timber frame patterns look good on this house. My main feedback on this one carries over from the above - for instance, avoid using log blocks for rafters. Try a bit more to avoid introducing unecessary messiness, such as the random block mixes in the floor and road here. Either have a stone floor or a dirt floor, but don't try to mix the two or it's going to contrast harshly and look messy. If you have a large enough floor, you can try doing a more subtle gradient in the floor using pebble blocks, but I don't think it's necessary here.

- The roof shape feels a bit odd, with the large outer rim and the very large extrusions for the dormers. I don't have any alternatives off the top of my head; I'd just play around with it a bit more.

- I'd simplify the stone walls of the yard a bit - they could be made a bit less bulky for such a small area, and also you don't need 3 different stone blocks for a small cobble wall. Just 2 in a simple gradient at most. Also, avoid having dirt blocks exposed under stone blocks (as in this image).

- Don't use trapdoor blocks for shelves, since guests can currently mess them up by toggling, and also the block texture is a bit out of date. Use either carpet blocks or half slabs instead.

For a first challenge build, please make a middle-class house in the style of /warp duskendale. Let me know if you have any questions on my feedback above, or the challenge style. Good luck!

Hey JJAiken,

Nice work! The house is another improvement (especially with the exteriors) and looks like it'd fit decently well in the Duskendale style. There are some things I have feedback on, though:

- I'd tone down the number of "peaks"/dormers on the roof; it makes the profile of the house a bit overwhelming. It's fine to have a stretch of sideways-looking roof without any special features in many cases.

- I'd make the jungle wood beams under the timber frames a bit less heavy. Most of the houses at Duskendale just use alternating upside-down stairs and slabs rather than full blocks.

- The exteriors look pretty good to me other than those two things, but the interiors still need a fair bit of work IMO. So I'd focus on those especially when working on the next challenge build. Overall, I'd focus on the proportions of rooms - avoid having really large rooms with a relatively low ceiling, and if you have a high ceiling, make sure you have interesting (but non-bulky) rafters.

- When using cabinet/bench blocks, such as in this picture, always cover up all sides except for one with "half door" blocks or other furniture. This way it doesn't look like the drawers open up on multiple sides. Also, in an ordinary house, I'd rely less on the fancier "Table" variants of the benches and more on the standard "Bench" ones.

- Try to be consistent with the stone types you use; you use sandstone brick and arbor brick for the furnace here, which clashes a bit with the gray stone. Also, I'd just have one furnace/stove rather than two side by side.

- For the support here, I'd use the wood plank textured wall block rather than the log one. Also, I'd suggest trying out a design like this one for the vertical support and beam (adjusting however you need) rather than the stair block above the wall blocks. It's a bit less bulky.

For the next challenge build, please make a medium-sized house in the style of /warp tortown. As before, let me know if you have any questions on my feedback or the Tor style. Good luck!

Hey jeffjunior,

Great work again, you're getting better! The shape and proportions and everything look good; the feedback I have is a bit pickier this time (but still important):

- The gradient still needs a bit of work. Especially with plaster blocks, you don't want it to be too patchy. You want it to be one large connected surface, with a little bit of a gradient to stone brick on the edges where the plaster might be fading. I recommend taking a closer look at the houses at the Tor, notice that most of them use plaster in one continuous area rather than multiple patches.

- I'd make the balcony opening on this side a bit smaller, and possibly with a door. Although it is in Dorne, it would still get fairly cool during the nights, and so they'd want to conserve heat inside the house.

- Make sure to include some immersive details to help the house blend in with its surroundings and look "lived"; for instance on this side you have an area covered by a tarp, but what's its purpose? Would something be stored there? etc.

- A wood support (using birch plank fence) in the center of the large room here would help a bit aesthetically; otherwise the proportions feel a bit off (with the room being fairly long and wide, but only 3 blocks tall).

- Bookshelves should be treated similarly to cabinets/benches, in that you generally want to make sure the sides are covered (half door blocks or other furniture).

- In the rafters on the second floor, try to avoid having full block jumps, like here. Use slabs to make sure the underneath of the ceiling has a gradual slope, just like the outside of the roof.

- In the kitchen (the pic from the previous point), try to avoid having food hanging sporadically. Usually they'd have a single line where they hang garlic/herbs from. Meats would generally be salted and stored in a closet (or possibly a cellar), rather than hanging above the dining table or a barrel of water.

Other than those things, I think you've done a nice job. For the next challenge build, I'd like to see a house in the style of /warp hgtown. Let me know if you've got any questions; good luck!

Hey jeffjunior,

Quite nice work overall; the interiors look good, and while there's a couple issues with the exterior, if those are fixed it'd fit into hgtown quite well. Here's the feedback I have this time:

- You should avoid using horizontal rows of the "timber oak white frame" blocks, as it doesn't look great and isn't super realistic (since timber supports a vertical load). It's best to stick with generally vertically-oriented timber frame patterns, like the ones you see when you look around HGTown.

- The gradient looks mostly good, but I think you can make the transitions even smoother. For example, avoid having the "light stone" right next to the "reach cobblestone", and instead have a transition block between them like "reach light stone".

- For the 1x1 windows you should use the "oak timber window frame" block.

- The rafters here are a little too complex; I'd suggest just having horizontal beams (using the upside-down stairs) in one direction, spaced out slightly (i.e., having upside-down slabs between every other stair block).

Otherwise nice work! For the next challenge build, please make a middle-class house in the style of /warp fairmarket, with a medium-sized yard. The style there is a bit more complex, so make sure to take your time with it and study it carefully. Let me know if you have any questions on anything. Good luck!
