The Spring 2023 edition of The Rookery is now out! Take a look to see the latest builds, guides, progress and development updates on the upcoming 1.18.2 switch. You can read it here:
I still think it's worth messing around with a bit more. If you combine it with a very wide 'repeat' CTM where only some of it is the striation overlay, combined with the height restriction, you might actually be able to create striations which don't just form horizontal stripes like that.
Hey Back, welcome back! Always nice to see some oldies returning.
Your house looks pretty good overall. My only major feedback is that we've pretty much moved on from using full log blocks in houses at all, including in the interiors. They just look too clunky. Also, I'm not sure if the food...
Okay, finally got some time to go through it! I said this to you in-game plenty of times, so I won't belabour it, but amazing work on this whole project. Here's some of the post-approval feedback I have:
- Some white glass near the lighthouse - I assume just a placeholder for water that was...
Was playing around with striations on the new terrainsets a bit. I did the following really quickly and it can probably be improved a bit.
Method: create one translucent color overlay for each type of striation you want (currently I have 3 with varying shades of brown). Define one properties...
Hey sorry again for the delay! My semester just finished so I should be able to be a bit more on top of it now.
Overall this looks pretty good. You've definitely gotten the more rural style down, and the house has some very nice structural details on the outside like the covered pens. Here's...
Just based on what you said it sounds like it could be a difference between hand-built/worldpainter/old WE leaves and ones created with FAWE, but that's just a hunch.
I don't think that we actually need to select only the top part of the trees to replace with snowy leaves, I was just thinking...
Okay I took a look at the app. Everything looks great! I don't really have any major concerns with anything.
Regarding the houses, I do sort of agree with Otty that the chalet-style houses have a lot going on, especially the three with daub & wattle. They look nice if you're using them for...
Hi Lucas,
Those are some cool ships you've built! However, if you're just interested in our ship contest, I don't think you need to apply for builder for that. Just ask a moderator in-game and they can assign a contest plot to you.
If you are interested in applying for full builder, then you...
I'll look through this in more detail when I have a bit more time (looks very nice from a first glance!), but real quick, where exactly is House Crayne on the larger map? I couldn't seem to glean this information easily from the app, though maybe I missed something.
Hey Qual,
This looks pretty good to me! Just a couple quick minor things:
- On the overhang on this side you should have something under the daub & wattle rather than leaving it exposed.
- I think you have too many wood types next to each other in the interiors; some don't really go well...
Yeah, you caught me on not being thorough enough with the canon. I missed the first quote you gave.
I'm really struggling to put together those quotes into a coherent vision in my mind. Someone is "sliding" under an evergreen-like tree with branches/needles a foot off the ground... then...
I took another look at the canon, and I think there's things both to support a re-terraforming of the haunted forest, but also go against some parts of your argument:
"Oak and ash trees can be found in the Haunted Forest, along with sentinels and weirwoods"...
Hey Qual,
Welcome back! Happy to see you reapplying.
I don't really have any qualms with the houses you made; you seem to have picked up on our newer more minimalistic style pretty well. They look good. One minor thing would be that you don't want to mix the blocks in the palette randomly -...
I really like the feel of the current forest, including the sparsity of it and the dappled shadows that the trees project onto the snow. It feels haunting in a very subtle way - sort of peaceful and unnerving at the same time. Like I can imagine someone walking through the forest, with the wind...
Could you elaborate on that? If you’re doing any WE to forests you’re still going to end up with the lack of lighting. There *is* a trick to fix it, which I can tell you when you get to that point, but it’s somewhat of a pain to do.
