Hey, sorry again about the delay!

Overall this seems like steady progress - I like the backstory you created for the house, it's great to put that sort of thought into your work and helps with immersion. Here's some of the feedback I have this time:

- The jungle wood and birch wood in the exterior contrast too heavily. Refer to the comment I left last time about wood pairings:

Try to generally avoid using dark wood types (e.g. spruce) next to light wood types (e.g. oak) in your interiors, as they contrast badly. Oak and jungle make a good pairing, as does jungle and spruce, or jungle and northern, or spruce and northern, or oak and birch.

So, if you change the birch to oak here, it should be much better. Even so, be careful with mixing wood types; you don't want it to be too messy.

- The thatch roof seems a bit off. I think it's mainly the thatch wall on the peak of the roof, which I'd probably remove. The houses at Gaunt generally just use slabs or stair blocks for the peak (depending on the width). There's only one there I saw that uses the wall, but the view of the house is different so it doesn't stand out as much.

- Try to avoid things like this, the tiny facade with a full roof gable just looks strange. If it's just for storage, you can try giving it a shed roof instead.

- The interiors are a big improvement this time! One nitpicky thing: whenever you use cabinet or bench blocks (like by the bed here), cover up all sides except for one with half door blocks or other furniture. It doesn't make sense for drawers to be exposed on multiple sides.

- Also, overall there should be less lanterns inside the house. They only really need one, that they would carry around with them when it's dark.

- The yard doesn't really make much sense currently. A peasant wouldn't just grow squares of fruit leaves in their yard, but would rather grow a couple staple vegetables (turnips, carrots, pease, cabbage) and herbs (garlic, sage, etc.) to sustain themselves. Also, fruit would grow on different types of trees, which would generally take up an entire farm area (such as an apple orchard) rather than being grown in a yard. I talked with you about this in-game, but I recommend taking the time to study some yards in-game.

For the next challenge build, please find another rural house in the style of /warp norridge. Make sure to include a sizeable yard, and pay close attention to the examples at Norridge. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Good luck!

Hey sapp,

Thanks for your patience. Busy time for me right now.

Nice work on the house, the yard is definitely an improvement this time. Though you're overall picking up on most of the stylistic elements now, there's still a number of minor issues with execution I'm noticing. When studying a style, I really want you to have an eye for detail - try to pick up on the techniques people use in houses, from the daub & wattle pattern, to the roof layout, to the interior floorplan, etc. I recommend taking notes or sketching stuff beforehand if it helps. Here's some of the specific feedback I have this time:

- The gradient in the stone foundation is a bit too messy. I wouldn't have the reach rounded brick block next to the faint light stone. Also, you don't want to mix blocks randomly, but rather have a smooth transition from one to the other. I recommend checking out /warp gradient again for help with this.

- Avoid having horizontal rows of the open timber frame block (the one without any diagonal beams), like in this image or this image. It looks bad, and also doesn't make sense realistically because it has no structural integrity.

- The overhang on the sides of the roof to the left here is weird, and looks very top-heavy. You should remove those and go with a no-overhang style.

- Don't use the ornate arrow slit block in houses. Use the "window" one instead.

- The ceiling here needs some form of rafters.

- The oxidized bronze in the fireplace here is a bit strange; I'd just make that stone instead. Also, you should cut down on the storage blocks (crates etc.) a bit; they shouldn't have that much. In general you want to avoid "crate spam", where you use clutter blocks to fill space.

- The yard should have dirt blocks rather than grass, and also some other immersive details here and there (examples: clothesline, shovels, baskets, wheelbarrows, firewood shed, etc.).

For the next challenge build, please make a house in the style of /warp ashwood. The diagonal plots there are a bit tricky, so please pay close attention to making sure you get both the layout and the roof correct. Also, include a decent-sized yard in your house. Make sure to study the yards and use the same types of crops used at Ashwood. Let me know if you need clarification on any of the feedback, or if you have any questions about Ashwood. Good luck!

I don’t have biomes or world builder so I can’t mirror the same block used in ash wood, can I use dark cobblestone or get another challenge

The biome used at Ashwood is Extreme Hills; you should be able to spawn in an Extreme Hills biome by setting the seed for the world. See if any of these work:

House- Greetings, Today I built a house in Ashwood, I had trouble with the biome cobblestone so I ended up using dark cobblestone, it looks the closest to the in game ash wood, if its wrong I can re-do but it looks close to it, so I did a little pretending. I build a wooden roof with a pattern show in the picture, In the house there is a pig pen like most houses I saw in AshWood, it was two double beds, a furnace with so wood for the fire, there is a shelf with food and water for winter. There is patterns around the house and 3 windows, 1 is sealed closed the others are open. In the back of the house there is some plants growing and some more wood under a roof.

Lore- Jarad lives here with his wife sansa, and there son higgen. They live in Ashwood, there are poor there is no doubting that, but to them they care about family rather than wealth, after all Jarad knows what moneys does to people he wants to part in it. He works for the lords of Ashwood, he helps to take care of them, he has a mini garden to help feed his family, he has a pig in his house because its the north, his great great grandson lebron would become the lord of Ashwood in 360 AC ( the future lol). He has a quint life but a good one.

Sign off- I enjoyed this build except the cobblestone issue, ill try to get it running but it wasn't working... I am so excited for my next build, I'm excited to hopefully become a builder, Please don't feel rushed I hope your school is going well, Byeeee!!!!

Hey sapp,

Great work on this, you're coming along! :) The interiors and exteriors seem mostly up to par this time, I don't have as much feedback to give other than picky stuff. The yard and surrounding details still need a bit of work, though. Make sure not to neglect those, it's important for your house to fit into the larger context, wherever that may be.

- Make sure not to forget the gradient. I know you were having trouble with the biome shading, but you could try something like this (northern cobble to dark cobble).

- The fireplace here, I wouldn't have both the furnace block and the "open" area with the ash underneath. You usually just want to have one or the other (unless the house is a baker or something, then they might have a special oven).

- You can use full thatch blocks in the floor to get a nice, subtle texture with the rushes, and it also allows you to place it under half doors and stuff. For example, how it's done in this house. Note in that image that the thatch is placed under the wattle fence. It also just looks nicer having a bit of texture.

- Be careful with the food blocks you use, the hanging chili in this image doesn't make much sense because it wouldn't grow in such climates.

- Ordinary peasant houses probably wouldn't have house banners in or outside them.

- For the yard layout, try to avoid a big rectangle surrounding the house. It's fine to have rectangle yards (and you definitely want to avoid "bubble yards" without linear walls), but it should extend out to one side of the house rather than surround it. Something like this, for instance, would be a better layout for a house+yard (just a very quick sketch).

- When you do a yard, make sure to flesh out the entire enclosed area with either veggies/herbs, paths, other details, or grass/bushes. Don't leave any parts of it undetailed. Also, I assume the bed here is a mistake?

For the next challenge, let's try a town style. Please make a middle-class house in the style of /warp wickenden. The style here is a bit more complex, so please make sure to take your time and get all the little details right. Also, include a small yard for the house with the usual veggies and other details. Good luck!

Build- this is a house inspired by Wickenden, I built it on a stone patio with tunnels and storage space, In the house there are 4 main rooms, Dinner area/ kitchen, Room for 2 kids, upstairs a hang out area and another room, This was a tough build, I used stairs for rafters and a carpet around most the house, There is a lot of windows here.

Lore- This house is lived in by pod and his wife Jill, and their two kids Donald and Joe, They are the harbor masters of Wickenden, they have a nice life.

Sign- Thank you, Im hoping Im getting closer to the end, when will I know my final challenge, Im excited to become a builder, Have a great day take as much time as you need!!!

Hi sapp,

I've already talked with you in-game about this house a bit, so I think you know what I'm gonna say. Overall, you're getting the general layout, palettes, and interiors down for each of the challenge builds I give, but you're missing a lot of the important details. The style is a bit tougher than the Ashwood house (which you did a good job on) so some of it's to be expected, but you've also repeated a lot of mistakes which I've pointed out in past feedback. I might recommend keeping a checklist of things I mentioned in past feedback, and for each challenge build, making sure each of the things on the checklist is satisfied. Anyways, here's some of the feedback I have this time:

- The timber frame blocks (i.e. daub & wattle) should never be random. They should always be arranged in some sort of pattern (typically symmetrical for the sides). Take a closer look at the patterns on the houses there.

- Likewise for the stone foundation, the stone blocks shouldn't be mixed randomly. There should be a gradient. Check out /warp gradient, also see some of the past feedback I gave on gradients for more detail.

- I generally avoid 2x2 windows on normal houses, they usually don't look great.

- The bronze blocks in the kitchen here don't really make sense, just make those wood instead.

- Try to cover up the slate in the attic a bit better. You can have a tiny bit showing but it should be mostly covered with half doors and stairs.

- The side of the bench here should be covered. Also, I can't tell what the two shutter blocks in that image are, but one of them is facing the wrong way it seems.

- Please go back to what I said about the yard layout in my previous post - rather than having a big rectangle or pedestal that you put your house on, you should build the house first, and then build the yard in a way that extends naturally from the house. Please see the image of an example yard layout I linked in the previous post.

Also, one more thing: some of the elements of the house feel a bit too similar to one of the houses at the town, specifically the one right near the market close to the docks. For instance, the general shape, the arch going through the foundation, the dormers in the roof, and some parts of the interiors like the fireplace. I know it wasn't intentional, sometimes the line between copying a style and copying a particular house is hard to draw. In the future though, try to think about taking small elements from multiple houses in the style and combining those elements in a unique way, rather than focusing on one specific house. Feel free to be a bit more creative, as long as you pay close attention to details and make sure your technique is right.

For the next build, I want you to build another middle-class Wickenden house fixing the issues above, and also being a bit more distinct shape-wise. This isn't meant as a penalty or anything, I just feel like we're not getting very far right now with jumping around to different styles, and I want you to really focus on sticking with a style and getting the small details right (like the gradient, timber frame patterns, etc.). Also please do let me know if any of my feedback in the past is unclear, I'm happy to help show what I mean in-game when I'm able to.

House- This is a smaller middle- class house in Wickenden, You have a small year with some crops and wood and the road at the front of the house, Inside you have a work area for the man to work, and a kitchen and hearth for the house, upstairs you have a table and a eating area with a laundry place, lastly you have a room, with a double bed and a dresser.

Lore- In this house james lives with his wife susan, they are young and are hoping to have a son soon, James works at the harbor of Wickenden to help control trade, he has a side hustle to he sells some crops and bread which susan makes, they live a happy life.

Sign- Hopefully this is good, I am ready for my next challenge, hoping to become a builder soon, Thanks have a wonderful day...
