What is your Minecraft username?
Xx_CC23_xX

What is your age?
17-20

In what country are you living?
United States

Where did you first hear about WesterosCraft?
Searched online

What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
My favorite character is Arya Stark, and favorite battle is Battle of the Bastards. What I like most about this show is the grey morals of each and every character. No one is good no one is bad it's all interpretation.

What is your favorite build on our server?
I am going to have to say Winterfell because of how detailed the build is with no inspiration from the show. Purely from the books, it's amazing!

Why do you want to join our server?
I have been commissioned to build on other servers and this is just an opportunity that I have wanted to join for a long time. The community is great and the builders are talented. It would be an honor to join this project.

Hey CC23!

Feel free to bump your application or ping me on discord RavishMeRed if you go a while (preferably around 5-7 days) without a response. I will try to reply as soon as I can.

Thank you for taking the time to apply. Besides the obvious Optifine issue, which you have already resolved, I see no issues with your build. I hope this exercise was a useful tool to learn our server's style and building standard. For the ensuing challenge builds, you will be expected to build original houses of your own design that meet the style of the specified location on our server. You will be task with emulating certain elements and practices and combining them into a creation of your own. After each challenge, I will give some feedback.

For your first challenge build, please make a medium-sized house in the style of Varner. (/warp Kerseyford Elderbrook or Pendleton for some good examples) with a profession of your choice. Please include a decent sized yard to accommodate the profession you choose.

If you haven't already, you can take a look at the Basic Building Guide for some more tips.

Good luck on your build challenge.

Ok here is a medium Varner Style Fisherman house. I was having a little trouble figuring out what a fisherman needs but I think I got it I hope this is what you were looking for.
Thanks,
CC

Hey CC23! So pleased to see how you've been welcomed into the community. I'm sure you've already made so many great experiences. Now, let's get on to your build.

I will give constructive feedback on your build and separate it through Interiors and Exteriors. You're more than welcome to implement the changes I suggest, which i recommend, but it is not required, nor do you need to post screenshots of those changes.

Exteriors
  • Palette and stone blocks used are correct, but I would suggest taking a look at /warp gradient. It's a great visual tool that will assist you in gradients as we progress through your builder application together.
  • The wall blocks you used on the edge of your build are contradictory to the Varner style so opt for stylistic choices that fit within the project. In this case, substituting them for full blocks.
  • For your yard space, I would stick to a equally distributed palette containing dirt, gravel, and pebbles if used around. Take a look at other yard examples for palette ideas!
  • Use slabs to separate block levels so the ground looks smoother.
  • For your yard decoration, try and organize the space into select sections of work. This avoids clumping of general clutter and gives the space some overall planning. For example, add a shed for fishing supplies, a butcher's area to prepare the fish, etc. Also avoid using item frames. These are vanilla items, and they are okay in certain uses like faith icons but in this case it isn't.
Interiors
  • Use slabs instead of trap doors. Not only can these blocks be manipulated by guests and other builders, but this is also an outdated building technique.
  • Keep your interior ground level at 1 block if you are able to.
  • I would also advise checking out /warp ikea for furniture ideas.
  • Similar to the yard, I would suggest sorting and organizing the inside of your houses into tentative spaces that separate sleeping, kitchen and eating spaces, and miscellaneous household necessities.
I hope this feedback helps you. I know it's a lot to take in all at once. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me on here, the server, or discord. If I don't respond immediately, I will try to respond as soon as possible.

For your next challenge, I'd like for you to build something a little more specific. Please create a low class, medium sized farmer with yard space included in the style of /warp hammertown.

Good luck!

Hey CC23!

I can already see some improvements. Hope you enjoyed this new challenge. I'm immediately seeing somethings that can be easily fixed. Not too much feedback on this build.
  • Your facade should consist of uniform daub and wattle blocks with timber frames.
  • Indent your doors with a slab and half door block above the door or with stairs so the daub and wattle texture doesnt show underneath.
  • Decorations and furniture are looking much better.
I'd like for you to be a little more daring and ambitious with your future challenges. I'd like to test your limits and for you to possibly step out of your building comfort zone. For example, go a little bigger on your yards so you can accommodate even more room and space to build.
-
For your next challenge, we'll be staying in the reach for this one. I'd like for you to build me a middle-class, medium sized house in the style of /warp woodwright. Similar to the previous build, you may pick a profession of your choice and please include a decent sized yard to accommodated chosen profession.

Good luck!

Hey CC23! I'm very pleased with this most current challenge. A lot of the feedback I had for your first iteration of the challenge you managed to fix on your own which is great! What comments I do have is quite niche feedback.
  • For the wall surrounding the yard, remove the full blocks underneath the walls
  • I personally prefer the height of the previous furnace/kiln. With the height of the current chimney, some stone bracing could be added along the base to improve the structural integrity. As you continue building in the future, be aware of the scale and proportion of things as you adjust certain elements.
  • The stone gradient could use a little work. I hope you got the chance to look at /warp gradient, but certain blocks should not touch other blocks. For instance, if you have blocks A, B, and C, blocks A and C should never touch each other.
  • Same as one of your previous challenges, your yard ground palette should be diverse. Have patches of grass and shrubs in areas that are not touched often. And use a mix of gravel and dirt for others.
I hope this feedback was helpful. For your next challenge, I'd like for you to build something a little more challenging. Please make a middle or low-class house in the style of /warp thetor. Please choose a profession fitting for the class and the region. You will be working in Dorne, so be mindful of certain building techniques and blocks used in the area. (ex. dont use spruce!)

I wish you good luck!

So I sorta did what I was hoping you wanted me to do. I was confused because I spawned on a boat when I warped so yeah. I sort of floated around a bit and found that a very common build around was a city build. Because there is nothing too exciting on the exterior I spent the whole time working on the interior. I am quite proud of the interior lol. This is a winery trade.

Hey CC23!

Great work with the Tor house style. Here's my feedback:
  • While the gradient is good, it tends to go in a linear, upward direction. Your gradient should be concentrated around areas of high erosion, in this case, the plaster being the overall used block.
  • Your balcony needs some supports in the form of fences, fence gates, etc. Don't forget the details.
  • The interior layout is solid but lacks an overall planning. The overuse of clay pots and barrels gives a feeling of inorganization.
  • Similar to the downstairs, I would suggest adding more decorative ideas into your interiors (clothes, baskets, drawers, cabinets, shelves, etc.) Make your interiors feel well lived in without being too messy.
That is all my feedback for this build. I would like to see an updated version of this before we start your next challenge.

Thank you,
-RavishMeRed

Alright I got everything done you asked for. I hope that this is better. I know for a fact that I will improve as i'm being shown in time. I'm a hands on learner so this is difficult. But I hope that this suffices with what you are looking for. Thanks :)

Hey CC23!

Looking much better! We all learn in different ways, so I understand. You've done very well considering that.

For your next challenge, I'd like for you to create a house in the style of /warp frost. As always, please choose a profession that accomodates the area and style and include a decent sized yard.

Good luck! Keep up the good work.

Hey CC23,
Thank you for being patient with me during your application process.
-
I've been very pleased with the builds you've made, consider your builder application approved! :)

Please ask a moderator in-game when you are online to be promoted to builder. The next step is to read over the New Builders Guide. Also create a probation thread on the Probation Forum.

You can start building at any open location found on the server - you can check /warp build (some of these may possibly be outdated as people forget to update it sometimes) as well as going to our dynmap and toggling the "Open Plot" filter. You can also search the forums for active projects or ask around to see which builds are open.

Also ask a mod to set you up with a plot in the Test world so you can practice building.

A probie leader should respond to your thread within a week or so. There they will give you constructive feedback during your next month and assist in your entry into the server community as well. Once you have completed probation, you will be promoted to full builder.

Welcome to the team, I look forward to building with you and seeing your future creations! :D
