The Spring 2023 edition of The Rookery is now out! Take a look to see the latest builds, guides, progress and development updates on the upcoming 1.18.2 switch. You can read it here:
Hey Mars,
Fantastic work here, as before! I think you've shown great aptitude with picking up both styles, so I'm happy to approve you at this point.
The next step is to ask a moderator in-game to promote you next time you catch one online. Make sure to read over the New Builder guide, found...
Hi Homie,
Sorry about the wait and thanks for being patient. I've discussed your app with the rest of the KL team, and we've decided that your plans seem in good shape and that we're ready to approve your app. However, there are some feedback/stipulations:
- The house style(s) still feel a bit...
7/15/23 Update
I'm happy to announce that, after about a year of efforts, I've completed the terraforming base for the Ruthermont project - roughly corresponding to steps 1-4 in the project workflow (see Section 1.5).
As such, I'm ready to open Ruthermont for applications. Please see below for...
Hey Mars,
Fantastic work on these houses - you've picked up the style impressively quickly!
The only feedback I really have is a super picky point concerning the gradient: there are two dimensions to blocks that you want to keep in mind, color and texture. Each step in the gradient should...
Hey Mars,
Thanks for your application, glad to see your interest in joining the team!
Everything looks good with the apphouse; I hope it was a good tutorial for using our server's block pack. For subsequent challenge builds, you'll be expected to build original houses of your own design, in...
Hey Ragga, welcome back! Always great to see an old builder returning.
The apphouse looks good; no issues there. I'm sure you know the drill, but I'll give you a few challenge builds and feedback just to catch you up to current standards. Since you requested a batch of assignments to work on in...
That's sick! Mind sharing what prompt your brother used?
Could be a fun Rookery idea to have photorealistic renders of various projects: "WesterosCraft reimagined" or something like that
Not too shabby Waz! Could you post the 32x32 image tile as well?
BTW, I experimented with converting the current brick blocks to light mortar a while back, but found that it didn't play very nicely with the other blocks in the pack given the overall shading style.
This looks better, nice work! A minor piece of feedback - the mud and pebbles in the ground mix still looks a bit too messy; try to make "blobs" of mud instead of single blocks, and use gradients to transition them with normal dirt.
I think you'll learn more at this point as a probie builder...
Hey Plutten,
Apologies for the delay - really nice work on this challenge! It's a difficult style and you pulled it off pretty well. And I'm glad you noticed and fixed the issue with the roof on your own; it definitely looks a lot better in the second version. I do have a bit of feedback to...
Personally I use Photoshop, but GIMP is a good free alternative. Here's one resource I'm familiar with:
https://mcmodels.net/how-to-tutorials/blockbench-tutorials/minecraft-modelling-texturing-tips/
Going to ping Thamus_Knoward so he can share some of his resources (if he can find a bit of...
Since I've basically been the main person responsible for working on the texture pack for the last several years, I'll give my input here, though of course I don't mean to stifle discussion around how we can improve the development process.
The elephant in the room
As I think most people know...
Hey Plutten,
Fantastic work on this house, you're catching on pretty quickly! You did a nice job with the stone gradient and detailing this time. Here's some of the feedback I have:
- Old Anchor uses a "no overhang" style on the rooves, so the roof should actually be cut off on the...
Hey Plutten,
Great work on this house! It looks like you hit all the major aspects of the Tor style. I just have a few minor points of feedback to give:
- The gradient could still use some improvement, as it's a bit too visually noisy. Instead of having small large patches of the "arbor light...
Hey Plutten,
Sorry about the wait - no need to add the "you know nothing" line each time, I've just been pretty busy. But feel free to bump if it's been 5 days.
First, I noticed that the exteriors of this house are almost identical to the one in Woodwright here:
I'll give you benefit of...
Yup that's right. In a nutshell, currently you have multiple "fingers" of rock along the coasts resembling a wave-cut platform (like the one that was made at Ghost Hill), but I don't feel it fits very well with the style of headlands and coves that you're otherwise going for. I think it would...
