Reach-Westerland transition sub-style : proposition, discussions and inspirations

I agree on it not really fitting the region, the solution Jake and Gui came up with is much better. As concerning the Vale, we definitely should have an in depth discussion about the region :)

    Quail Gate

Currently there is a lot of irl work taking up my time, so I wont further develop the gate and rather focus the little time I have on the ham for Lonmouth. Good luck to the others, the designs are really good and have lots of potential :)

Reach-Westerland transition sub-style : proposition, discussions and inspirations

Romainmotier-envy still retains comparatively much of its medieval architecture, though the facades are obviously largely modern, as well as plenty other additions. As with all modern structures, one has to be careful to differentiate modern from medieval. Taking a look with Google Street view...

Reach-Westerland transition sub-style : proposition, discussions and inspirations

To elaborate on making it a little more (western) swiss: take a look at the two Kantons Waadt (or in french Vaud) and Wallis, Romainmotier-envy in Vaud is a good example I think.

Reach-Westerland transition sub-style : proposition, discussions and inspirations

medieval switzerland is a transition between germanic, italian and french architecture (depending on the region), that's why it suits so well for this area (and others too) Swiss seems fitting for the Vale because of mountains, but I'd say that's a very superficial way of looking at things. I'd...

    Quail Gate

Here my test for the gate at /warp gealjar, still in wool. Based on another post on the quailagate and the location, I decided to have it as a smaller militaristic gate with a garrison. The right building is planned to house a small garrison, on the left I intend to build some stables.

I agree with Nikas, imo bran castle works better for larger builds, your test for the keep looks good so far :)

    Approved House Bolling by Homiesucc

Despite my first impression, most of bran castle does seem to be actually (late) medieval, with minor renevations (mostly on the interior) being done at the beginning of the 20th century. It would be good inspiration.

    Immersion Build: Abandoned Holdfast

these walls are much too thin, high and uneven imo Here's how hadrians wall looks like in parts where it wasnt cleaned my modern archeologists: As one can see very well on these last two pictures, the walls stops the snow from blowing over the fields, That's probably the main draw of the...

    A Stormlands Overhaul

Concerning the mountains in the stormlands, I think the german "Schwarzwald" would be a very fitting as inspiration for the northern stormlands, with the low, round mountains covered in thick forest. The north and mid parts of the Stormlands could be old Granite (like the Schwarzwald, or the...

    Immersion Build: Abandoned Holdfast

Not sure what the books say about it, but considering its near the road, lots of travelers probably use it as shelter, I think the build should reflect that. (e.g. firewood safely stored, some simple semi-permanent shelter built out of the ruins, etc.)

Fall 2021 Rookery - Opinion Polls and Submissions OPEN

In that case I'd rather research the topic more thoroughly, there's still some time before the citadel will be started, and the article would probably be a lot more interesting for people when it would be directly applicable.

Fall 2021 Rookery - Opinion Polls and Submissions OPEN

do we already have something for world-building? I'm thinking of writing about science in the middle ages, and how we could use some ideas for the citadel, and what we should change and adapt for westeros.
