Hey, I would like to hear everyones answer to this hypothetical.

Let's say you have provided some service to the Iron Throne and are raised to nobility and awarded the lands of your choosing.

What region and subregion do you choose? (ie: Riverlands, Redfork)

And

With your new nobility, what do you take for your coat of arms?

You can be as specific as you like!

HOUSE TALLDAMS
Coat of Arms: A White Tailed Black Beaver on a Field of Gold
Motto: Let Us Try
Seat: Gods Eye Town (currently), various river towns across Westeros (formerly)
Head: Sir Atler Talldams
Region: Riverlands
Title(s): Lord of Engineers (claimed), Sentinel of the Gods Eye River (currently), Chief Engineer of the Gods Eye Dam, Chief Inspector of Dams, Mills, and Industry
Overlord: (Whoever sits on the Iron Throne, Impostors be Damned)
Cadet Branch(es): (Too many to name)
Ancestral Weapon: Great Feller
Founder: Allander the Beaver

Many do not know where their kin originate nor where their family name comes from nor if Sir Allander really was a giant beaver. All that is known is that their men are good engineers and their women are great advisors. They've been tasked with inspecting dams and mills all across Westeros, but their title stretches them often far across the continent to inspect other forms of industry. Their seat is temporary as they are constantly on the move, not staying in a town little more than a decade at most, performing their duties granted them by the King of the Seven Kingdoms. Their current task is a monumental project that looks to build a dam or series of dams on the God's Eye River to provide irrigation for more farms, fresh water for an expanding King's Landing, and more mills for a thriving populace.

yummy good fleabottom pot soup...

When the onion knight really goes into retirement he would get himself a new HF in the Vale.
To stretch out his old bones and enjoy the last few days in absolute peace.
With a pension bank to sit and look down the valley, some good ale, and the best strains on the fields he would
slowly forgetting the bad things he saw.

Ofcourse I wouldnt bother kneeling to any king, one of the perks of beeing a pirate lord, why kneel when you can just raid, plunder and fight as much as you like, and no one can touch you, bc even when war comes, the Free Cities end up paying you, to loot, plunder and raid even more, and you can just change sides when stuff start going sour!!

Plus the waters there, are perfect!! Best swims ever, and then great meals of fish and other seafood, and maybe a wee visit to Lys, as well.
And in winter, the occasional storms make the seas impassable, allowing for more protection, and gives us the chance to settle down and enjoy the cosyness of my manor in Hierapytna, around the heat of the fireplace, eating goat ribs and beeing pampered by hordes of my new slaves. Safety, fun, blood and glory!! Idk about all you "noble" lords, but thats the life!

Hehehehe

No heraldry, instead heres a v nice scene:

I mean, this is a nobrainer; the Riverlands of course!

What's not to love about frequently flooding rivers, marshland and mountains of dead peasants?
All the other kingdoms know the Riverlands is the place to be, otherwise they wouldn't keep coming there!

There are too much boons of lording in the Riverlands to list them all properly, but here are just a few:
  • Wars; while your peers wither and grow fat during their lifestyle of peace and decadence you will remain strong and healthy fighting wars you didn't start, or do start your own war over a perceived slight or random village if daily life gets a bit boring. As long as your life is not cut short (literally, lol) the crisp meadow air you breathe while campaigning will be the key to a long life.
  • Floods; frequent flooding of the rivers that are literally everywhere will ensure your fields are always in the best condition to push out an endless supply of crops. Just ensure your peasants don't drown and die during the floods, otherwise cultivating your fertile soil will proof bothersome.
  • Winters; the winters in the Riverlands are the best of the continent! While southron kingdoms don't even have a winter to speak of (boring!), and the North has way too much winter, the Riverlands have the perfect balance of potentially multiple year lasting winters that will freeze the rivers, fields and peasants, that will rid your fief of useless weaklings such as elders and children. Without all those freeloaders to take care off your peasants will have much more time to tend the fields once they thaw in the spring (as longs as they are not trampled by passing armies)!
  • Natural resources; sure, the North has resin, amber and boatloads of wood, the Vale marble and pumpkins, the Westerlands literal mountains of gold and silver, the Reach a soil so fertile it feeds the entire continent during winters and the Crownlands are an economic powerhouse that has shifted the focus of trade in the entire Riverlands to outside of the region, the Riverlands has plenty of natural resources to offer! Export valuable products such as sour wine, peat or fish and grow rich over the backs of the peasants that have managed to stay alive!
  • Population; due to the many towns in the Riverlands you won't get bored as a lord, since you'd have to solve complex situations where the number of peasants is too large for the amount of food stored or farmed. Keep your mind sharp while you force your peasants to replace the farmers who died in yet another of your pointless wars or while you calculate how much timber is needed to rebuild your capital.
  • Social contacts; lording in the Riverlands is not all work and no play, there are plenty of opportunities for socialising with the many friendly neighbourhood residents. Immerse yourself in a game of hide and seek while Ironborn raiders or Vale Mountain clans try to steal your wife and daughters, play tag with poisonous darts with the Crannogmen of the Neck or go all out in a game of whack-a-mole with the local gang of bandits or raiding parties from the neighbouring kingdoms. If you're not much of a gamer then parley with hostile neighbours or invading armies as you plead them to leave your lands alone and fight their battles in the next fief, or try and discuss favourable terms to a stalemate in one of your own wars.
  • Religion; the Riverlands has a strong religeous tradition that goes back centuries. Local monasteries and holy orders are more than happy to aid you in your ambitions to confiscate the posessions of your least favourite minority, or turn your lands in the likeness of the seven layers of hell as they pick yet another fight with the local peasants, your neighbours or even the crown itself, all with the good intention of keeping you active throughout your lifetime.
Clearly the Riverlands offer all the essentials to any would-be lord wishing to live a long, healthy and happy life.

Edit II | Of course being a noble in the Riverlands comes with some hardcore heraldry, like this:

Ours is the Fury

House Baratheon is the way to go. Baratheons are Strong leaders and great Fighters.
With Storms End as their main Castle.
They are the one who end the Targ era kill the mad King and bring peace to seven Kingdoms.
Even if Robert wasnt the best king ever, with the right hand beside him and without the lannisters we would still have peace in the seven kingdoms.
All Main Houses followed him and accept him as the King.
Beside Robert Stannis would be also a good King. He can Rule and would bring Order in the seven kingdoms.

They are a small Kingdom but they a Proud loyal and Great Fighters.

Greetings
Jeff

I would go and raise a estate somewhere in the shore of the Greenblood, between Lemonwood and Godsgrace. Fertile, irrigated lands that gift its inhabitants fruits and vegetables, wines, olives and spices, allowing one to prepare the tastiest dishes. I would enjoy myself expending the evenings on the riverside while dancing to the fast beat of finger drums and having relaxed dinners on tiled courtyards shaded by cypresses, date palms and orange trees, warped by the smell of jasmine and the humid and cool mist that rises from the canals.

I don't know what my name or sigil would be, but I quite like this fanmade map of the region. House Barra sounds great, and I love their coat of arms.
