The Hall of a Hundred Hearths

Hey everyone!

The time has come to open one of the main parts of Harrenhal: the Hall of Hundred Hearths! The application process will be simple: any builder or team of builders is free to apply their own design here on this thread.

The application must include a model, which should be done based off the plot already in place at /warp hallofahundredhearths, with the interior already planned out. Having the basic shape of the façade will also be a good bonus. The shape and height of the stairs in the entrance can be changed.

Based off of canon, there are some conditions need to be met for a model to be accepted:

  • Fitting: the castle was carefully planned in a way that it makes sense with the (extensious) canon we have in the books. For that reason, the size and location of the hall has to be respected according to the plot already in place. No model can conflict with the plottings around, that is: the Tower of Dread to the east, the kitchens to the west and the godswood to the south.
  • Kitchen entrance: there has to be a connection to the kitchen keep and that connection has to be in the place already opened and marked in the plot.
  • Two galleries: the hall has two galleries above it, with steps and doors leading to them.
  • Cavernous and drafty: the hall must be carvenous and bonus points if you can make it feel drafty. Be sure to make the hall feel imposing and that anyone who enters it feels small.
  • Weirwood rafters: the rafters of the hall must be made out of weirwood.
  • Slate floor: the floor of the hall is described as being made out of slate.
  • The hearths: arguably one of the most important parts, the hall must have either 33 or 35 hearths, an even number in the walls parallel to each other and a single bigger one in the back of the room. Canon says they are approximately 3 blocks from each other, but less than that will be acceptable due to size issues. The hearths are described as big, but also due to those size issues a design with 2 blocks of width should sufice.

This is the basics. Decoration of the interiors is not necessary since it'll be discussed only after a model is approved. Same goes for erosion and damage from dragonfire, no need to make an eroded test for now.

All applicants have to take into account that they won't be just pasting their model in place and leaving it there untouched: the goal here is to choose a model so that the builder(s) who did it and the Harrenhal team can work together on it until the castle as a whole is finished. If you're not open for doing changes down the line or accepting the Harrenhal team working on your model, please don't apply.

For the general inspiration we are going for in the castle, you can check our inspiration archive. Remember to read the note at the begging of the document, please. Please post here any questions you might have or feel free to send me a message.

Let's make this happen now :)
