Thank you for taking the time to apply for builder,

Unfortunately you haven't followed the guidelines outlined in the builder application form. You must initially produce the exemplar house at /warp apphouse.

Your First Task
You must copy the house and garden which you can find on our server at /warp apphouse and build it in single player mode.

• When exploring the apphouse, use middle click to identify the blocks you need to use.
• Do not build on a flat world, try to situate the build within the landscape.
• Once finished, take 5-10 images of your house, including interiors and exteriors.
• One of these should be an authentication image of yourself in front of your build (press F5 to change camera angle).
• Please note that any challenges issued to you after this first build should not be copies, but instead use other existing builds as a source of inspiration.

Hey Lucaciones!

Veggie is currently unable to continue with your application so I'll take up his place. Going to the feedback, you did a good work with the app house, but I'm afraid the second test you made is not really up to the current standards of the server. To point out two things: the plot shape of some of the houses is a little off, the roof is not supported by any kind of rafters (that's the reason for the stairs and slabs on the ceilling in the app house).

I invite you to have a closer look on the houses around the server (specially on the area of the next challenge) and try to familiarize yourself with how they are built (their shape, how certain types of blocks and materials are used and where, etc.).

Then to continue your application please make a house in the style of /warp hammertown. Also include with it a good-sized yard (you'll find examples at the warp).

Your house unfortunatelly isn't quite up to date within the Hammerhal style. To point some problems that it has:

• The 90º turn the yard does is a little odd, I wouldn't do it. And the yard in general doesn't feel much lived in, it's kind empty and could have some more crops in it. Try to imagine a path the people who works in the yard would make and why they would make it and then arrange the things accordingly, so as the space is used in a more fluid way.
• The proportions of the house are different from the ones in the warp I pointed out to you. They should be more "slim". I invite you to check them again and try to replicate that shape.
• On the facade of the house, the blocks that make the walls should go all the way to the top, right bellow the thatch stair blocks. No need to have the thatch block between them.
• The timber pattern you made is very simple. I would try something different, while keeping in mind that the main purpose of the timber is to sustain the structure, so they should be arranged keeping that in mind. Again the warp I told you before should give you nice examples.
• On the interiors, the house also doesn't feel very lived in. Try to imagine here too how the people living in here would walk around the place, where would make more sense for them to eat, to cook, etc. You can also see more options on furnitures at /warp ikea. One furnace should be enough too, instead of two.

Hopefully my feedback was clear, but feel free to ask if you have any questions. If you haven't already it might be good to check our Basic Building Guide. As I said before, I think you should explore more the same place from the last challenge (/warp hammertown), try to familiarize youself with the style and then, to continue the application process, build again a house in that style and post the screenshots of it here.

I see some improvement in this house, but there's still some things that you haven't got right. So to the feedback, starting with exteriors:

• First thing I noticed is the stairs in the roof. You got the general idea, but the part you did wrong is that the stairs in the end of on each "row" should be kept straight instead. Also, in the top the roof is very messy. It should be just straight as well, without the "gaps" in it. Like in this example:

• On the daub pattern you made, I think you could've made a simpler pattern. Take into account that the timber in the blocks is supposed to be connected to each other when you're making the house, for support. And also that it's okay to make use of more "clear" ones, like the vertical daub. The house in Example 1 is a good example on that as well.
• In the stone base of the house you should use more than one type of stone. So apart from the reach cobble you could use the reach brick as well, again like the Example 1 house.
• You shouldn't place that many smoke blocks going out of the chimney, specially since the fireplace is not lit. If the fire is lit, two or three smoke blocks are usually enough.
• The shape of the yard is certainly better, but you could still make it more straigh I think. The yard can (and many times should) follow the terrain too, but for a flatter area - like in the case of your house - it's better to give it a consistent shape, as a square or rectangle. Here's a couple examples, one from Hammertown and another from Gaunt:

• For the contents of the yard itself I have a few suggestions. First, you could've made some different crops, wheat is usually made on bigger fields around villages and towns, not in the yards. For some good examples you can have a look at /warp crops. The design of the chicken coop could be one or two block smaller in length and it would be good; you can also make some signs around it that the chickens inhabit it, instead of the flowers nearby, like the one in the bottom right of the first pic of Example 2. Finally, it's good to add some grass to the yard but only in places where people wouldn't walk; so imagine the areas where people would walk often and avoid having grass in these places.

Now on the interiors:

• Starting with this image, there are some things that don't really work here: candles shouldn't be used against the wall as they would melt and fall; instead place them above another block, like a drawer or crate for example. The drawer block when used should have all of it's sides covered apart from one, so keep it in mind when you use them; also having it in this place, where the only way up is a ladder, seems unnecessary - they could just leave it in the ground floor, not having the trouble to get it up there. The flower in the pot also feels out of place; by a window or in a table it could be more fitting.
• In this image there is the same issue with the candle in the wall; also keep in mind that for low-class houses they wouldn't have too many candles, if any at all, in most cases. Same goes for the lantern, they would be very expensive for a peasant to acquire. The storage area you made occupies too much space I think. I would have more closed baskets and focus them in a shelf and beneath it. You could then move the kitchen area closer to the fireplace, as it makes more sense since they would use the fire to cook.
• Having the hare, fish and all the fruits and crops also seems too much, try to focus on using those items as a way to show what the owners of the house work with - a fisher would have some baskets with food, sure, but some fish as well. And the same for the hunter, but with a hare in the place of the fish.
• For the supports of the loft I would use an oak hopper instead of the oak planks block too, like in this example:

• And on this last image first thing I would say is to not use fences in that way. Instead you can use the horizontal rope block - if you place the rope in a block and then break that block, the rope will remain there in the air. And, like Batelgause pointed out, you shouldn't use stairs as seats; some blocks that work well for that are the dark thatch slab and the leather slab. The table you did could improve too, I would try different designs using the hopper blocks and slabs or the "oak cover" and half doors. You can see examples of both seats and tables, among other furnitures, at /warp ikea.

That should cover everything, if you have any questions feel free to ask them. I invite you again to visit the warps I pointed out along the feedback, they are very useful and can really help. For your your next challenge, please make a house in the style of /warp gaunt. Take a close look on the shape of the houses, the blocks used in them and how the interiors and yards are organized, which blocks represent what, etc. After you finish it please share the screenshots in this thread so we can continue.
