What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
What I like very much about Got is the sophistication and detail of the whole world, which is also finished in detail but still offers the possibility of its own fantasy and customization. As a period of time, I find it very interesting the conquest of Westeros by the future King Aegon 1 , mainly the conquest of Vale. When the king's sister, Visenya, won Vale without a fight only through wit and also when the Queen Regent Sharra Arryn was able to lose with respect and give up the crown and kneel before Aegon 1.

What is your favorite build on our server?
I probably wouldn't say I have one favourite building, but I like the structures and mostly castles around the High Garden, e.g. Holy Hall, Whitegrove, etc. I also like the castles in the Riverlands, which make me feel very impregnable but sometimes a little cold and old. Even so, what I like most is the architecture of the Reach and north Dorn area, which feels idealistic, even fabulous, with a sense of security, comfort and a beautiful life.

Why do you want to join our server?
I have been building in Minecraft since I was 7 years old and have always been fascinated by building castles. I am currently a student of architecture and historical buildings are a great passion for me not only in the world of Minecraft but also in reality. I have already used my passion as a builder on the Lord of rings modification server, where I became part of the team as a builder. Unfortunately, the server is no longer active so I am looking for a place to get involved with the construction of historic buildings.

Hey Frenci,

Apologies for the delay in response, in the future feel free to ping me if it's been more than a couple days with no reply. Overall excellent work with your initial submission, you really went beyond expectations! The interiors in particular look fantastic.

I didn't notice any issues with the application house itself, well done there. I do have a little bit of picky feedback on some other parts of the build:

- We generally avoid the full log blocks in most structures, since it looks pretty clunky as a building material. For the palisade, I recommend using the "thin log" blocks instead.

- The stone walls look a bit too messy in some spots. Instead of having a random mix of different stone blocks, you want to have a smooth transition ("gradient") from one shade/color/texture to another. You should avoid having two blocks next to each other if they contrast too harshly. For example, you might want to have the following gradient: reach cobblestone -> reach brick -> reach light brick -> light stone. You shouldn't have light stone and reach cobblestone right next to each other, since they contrast too harshly. There's a nice visual guide for this at /warp gradient on the server.

- The vines are also a little patchy in some spots. You want to avoid having single vine blocks that aren't adjacent to other vine blocks (not counting corners). It's better to have the vines form a larger continuous surface that connects to the ground somehow (since they need nutrients to grow). However, be careful not to overuse vines as well.

Let me know if you have any questions about the feedback and I'd be happy to elaborate or illustrate. For subsequent challenge builds, you should build original houses of your own design, in the style of specific locations on our server. After each one I'll give some feedback. For the first challenge build, please make a medium-sized house in the style of Old Anchor town (/warp oatown), with a yard. You can post the pictures in this thread. Good luck!

Hey Emoticone,

Thanks for the response. Here's my first assignment, an Old Anchor town-style house. I understand that in Old Anchor town there are mainly houses following each other so I built next to that brighter house to at least slightly feel like a house in the city .

Hey Frenci,

As before, excellent work on this house, everything looks really good! I'd say that you're just about up to server standards already. I do have a little bit of feedback to give though:

- Avoid using the "path" dirt/gravel blocks in small yards like this, since it just adds unnecessary detail and makes it seem a bit messy. It's fine to use all normal dirt/gravel for a yard like this. If it ends up looking a bit plain, you can add some subtle dirt gradients using mud, muddy sand (in small amounts), pine needles, and/or stormlands pebbles.

- The Old Anchor town style uses a roof style without overhanging eaves on the front/back facades. While the way you did it looks fine and there are some styles on the server that do have roof overhangs, just make sure to conform to the particular style you're building in.

- Avoid having long horizontal connected strips of timber frame blocks, like in the middle of this facade. It looks a bit odd and isn't structurally supported. It's fine to have 2-wide sections of it but beyond that I'd find a way to break it up.

- The house has a butcher profession sign, but I don't see any indication of the profession in the interiors? Unless I'm just missing a screenshot of that part, in which case disregard that.

- I'd avoid using paintings in a house like this; they should only be found in the wealthiest households.

- Avoid placing candles horizontally on the walls, since they're not supported by anything and would just melt and fall off. Generally they should only be placed vertically on surfaces (either furniture or candlesticks represented using fence blocks, walls, or vertical chain).

- Extremely picky thing, but I'd reduce the amount of smoke to 1-2 blocks unless it's something like a forge or industrial furnace.

Otherwise, I think you're well on your way. For the next challenge build, please make a rural farmstead in the style of /warp gaunt. At a minimum it should have a peasant house and barn (or possibly a combined house/barn), some vegetable and herb gardens, and animal pens. You're also encouraged to add any other details you find in researching medieval farmsteads for inspiration, if you so choose. Please let me know if you have any questions about the feedback or challenge build. Good luck!

Hello
I'm sorry to answer after a long time but I was on holiday so I couldn't work on the task.
During the construction of the last task, I tried to build a Gautn-style farmhouse.

- on the right is the main residential building
- on the left is a large barn
- directly opposite the gate is another residential building.

I tried to build the whole farm as much as possible in the given style. The farm also has a chicken coop, herb and vegetable garden and pumpkin. There is also a well between the houses. I've tried to take advantage of the advice you've given me, there's not as much smoke coming out of the chimney anymore, and the interiors of the house are perhaps adequately equipped for a given social stratum.

thanks for your reply

Hey Frenci,

Really nice work on this farmstead, I think you did a great job of representing the various aspects of the farm and adding immersive details. I don't have much feedback to give except for a few very picky things:

- The gradients are still a little messy in some spots. For instance, in the stone foundation here you have a lot of stone types mixed together in a small area. I'd recommend just using 1-3 stone types and having a smooth gradient between them. Similarly for the wood, I'd recommend toning down the oak/jungle mixing a little bit. If you're going to use a secondary wood type to represent damage, it's best to keep it pretty subtle.

- In the fallow field (to the right of the wheat field here), avoid using the farmland blocks, since they contrast pretty harshly and look messy. It's best to just use a combination of mud and plowed soil (the vanilla soul sand block). The farmland blocks are pretty much only used under other crops.

For a tentative final challenge build, please make a medium-sized house in the style of /warp tortown. Let me know if you've got any questions about anything. Good luck!

Hey Emoticone,
First of all, thank you for your response and for your feedback. I have tried to use your advice in the performance of this task, and I have tried to involve them in my construction.
For this task we built two houses in the style of /warp tortown, on the right a medium sized house by wine merchants and on the left a large house by a goldsmith owner.

In the house of a wine merchant there is a shop, kitchen and toilet on the ground floor. On the first floor there is a large living area with a bed and a dining room.

In the home of the owner of the jewellery store there is a store on the ground floor, a kitchen and a valet´s room. On the first floor there is a large living room with a dining table and bedrooms.

Hey Frenci,

Excellent work! I love the layout of the courtyard you made, and both the exteriors and interiors are nicely done as well. The only piece of feedback that I have is that the mud plaster should be simplified a bit, as it looks a little messy now. For each facade, try to just have one large surface of the plaster that's been eroded on the corners, rather than a bunch of broken-up strands of plaster.

Other than that, I think you're fully up to server standards, so consider yourself approved! :)

To get promoted to builder, ask a moderator in-game next time you catch one online. The next step is to read over the New Builder guide, found here: https://westeroscraft.com/wiki/guides/new-builders-guide
And also make yourself a probation thread in the probation forum.

You can start building at any open locations on the server - you can find these at /warp build (possibly outdated as people forget to update it sometimes), and also by going to our dynmap and toggling "Open Plot" (if a project lead marked their plots with open plot tags), or otherwise just checking the forums and asking around to see which builds are open (probably your best bet to be honest). Also, you can ask a mod to set you up with a plot in the Test world where you can practice building.

A probie leader should post on your thread within a week or so, give constructive feedback on your houses for the next month, and help be your entrypoint into the server community in general. As sometimes the probie leaders can be busy IRL, I also highly suggest seeking out feedback from project leaders and other online builders. At the end, you'll be made full builder.

Welcome to the team, I look forward to building with you! :D
