What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
If many people consider Lord of the Rings a high fantasy, ASOIAF has often been called a 'low fantasy': no magic, new creatures/species, or wildly unrealistic elements. This is what makes me love asoiaf and the universe it's located in: realism. Not to mention the world building- GRRM does such a good job of integrating everything(while there still are some discrepancies) that it feels like something that could happen in the REAL world.

What is your favorite build on our server?
My favorite build is White Harbor, and the New Castle which comes with it. I like it because of how well it really can capture the essence of the city, as shown in the books.

Why do you want to join our server?
I enjoy Minecraft and building in it; I have built in the game for quite some time, and while medieval houses/castles aren't my forte, I'm still willing to improve in that aspect. I would say futuristic designs are what I'm better at. This server interests me for two reasons: first, it's not every day that we can see such a large community working together on a project of such magnitude. Second, I very much would like to contribute to this map, and build structures.

Tell us about your build.
It is a simple peasant house with a back yard. I mostly took the various builds scattered throughout the Riverlands as inspiration; most houses are built of wood and thatched, the same design I went with. The house itself is built of wood with a thatched roof, the inhabitants of this house are probably not upper class; I can imagine them being farmers on a lord's field or even simple hunters. The roof has been kept low, and inside the floor is of packed earth. Food hands from the rafters and the house is in a one-room format.

Hey Emperor Mojo,
Thanks for your interest in the server, if you're a fan of the low fantasy genre and minecraft it sounds like you've come to the right place.

Thanks for completing this house. You're on the right track with this one, I can see you've put thought into the house and explored the server for inspiration.

I've just got a handful of suggested improvements that'll help with your future builds.
The shape and overall style of the house is close to some of houses you might see in the Riverlands/Crownlands, so you've done well to emulate it - I'll just give you a few tips that might help on future builds.

I like basically all the interior details you've added to the inside of the house, I think next time you could make the lower floor one block higher to give the occupants a little more head room. I'm assuming this house was built with a river close by in mind which explains the fishing nets.

I think we generally try to avoid adding overhanging thatch slab blocks along house edges, since they look a little flimsier than continuing the line of thatch stairs, and look a little unsupported. Next time just add another thatch stair block or finish the thatch at the top of the wall. This guide here might help.

I'd also probably cut the barrel suspended from the ceiling.

Once you get the hang of our building style you'll be making immersive and interesting houses in no time.

For your first challenge build, please make a Low Class Farmer's house in the style of /warp hawthornetown and share screenshots of it in this thread. Take note of commonalities between the houses (block mix, shape of roof, size of house, interior blocks, attic spaces, mezzanine platforms) and make a house that would fit into the Hawthorne town.

Also, if you haven't already, take a look a the Basic Building Guide for some more points, examples and Do's and Don'ts that will help on future builds.

Good luck!
