What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
Mostly the politics and how it makes you "expect the unsuspected". but the character building is so great and everything has a story to tell. As a nerd when it comes to history and fantasy game of thrones is a perfect fit. I have watched the series, as soon as I was done I started reading the books. So I'm looking forward to hopefully joining a team. And my favorite character is Tywin Lannister.

What is your favorite build on our server?
I would say Casterlyrock along with Lannisport. The way Tywin Lannister speaks of it "on the far western coast of the continent high atop a rocky promontory overlooking the sunset sea lies Casterlyrock" the preview makes it seem like a great castle that could be besieged and never get taken (even though if it did). built by the Casterly family long ago. I I am a true Lannister follower so of course I loved the scenes we get from that area.

Why do you want to join our server?
To be a part of something big and to contribute what I have to offer. I've been practicing for 1 year now to join. I started playing Minecraft since the beta. About my skills: I am a good worker when it comes to patterns and styles. Give me the different blocks and I'll build a nice theme or give me a theme and i will follow through. I also enjoy repeating things like making 1000 houses just because of how different they all can be on the inside. Whilst this might not be much I intend to keep practicing nomather what and I am a fast learner, so hopefully that will help.
My final hope by joining is to maybe learn a bit more about Game of Thrones, and connect more with the towns, castles, farms, taverns inns and most of all the people creating these wonderful builds.

Tell us about your build.
So my build is of a typical Late medieval Germanic/Italian alpine house.

Some basic information:
I asked on the forums what "low fantasy" means and they basically explained it as mostly realistic builds so I took Inspiration from my trips to Germany. I come from German decent so it came naturally for me to build this.
Now you didn't specify what sort of profession you wanted the house to hold so I made just a simple little farm house.
I tried not to get to carried away with building the scenery. you see when you tell a German to do something they will do it and just do it, so I didn't care to much for scenery although if it would please you I could redo the scenery.

The blocks:
For the blocks I looked around the area to find out what was native to that area. The main beams are oak just like the forests. The white plaster which I am guessing is made of limestone or a chalk wash, would make sense since there is a nearby river.
The stone is light as if the sun has slowly changed it over the years and moss and dirt has started to fill the crevices of the stone. The glass I tried to make a bit green/yellow as it was back then for poor people, clear glass was hard to make and only for the wealthy in the lands, so the poor had to stick to the cheap sorts of glass. And finally we have the beautiful red tiled roof. I really must say that I prefer red over any other color when it comes to roof tiles. I chose it because it was the most common in southern Europe at the time. The color comes from the firing in the kiln.


Now that all of that is out of the way let's take a look at the house. It has a small storage place under a small roof on the side for storage of provisions and farm production. on the other side you have a typical alpine wood chopping station, with wood stacks to last most of winter /for winter is coming . On the last side you have a bit of some cropland with some harvested haybales on the side. Of course this could be enlarged but I was unsure if it would count if I built one. Along with this we have a small tree and a chimney to provide heat and food to the house. On the inside it's a bit cramped. I tried to make a bit more of a town vibe to the house /that's why it is taller on the top). It is in a realistic size for a poor farmhouse for 3 people. When you walk in the door you have two ovens to cook food on and make the room warm and a small table with chairs. A small cabinet under the stairs to put some food on whilst not eating and that's about it for the first floor. On the second floor you get a bit more room you have a small food cooking station to prepare and store food. If you go inn the door you will be greeted with three beds and a small night table along with a oven to warm the room. IF you climb up the ladder on the main structural beam you will get to the attic. Here you will find some barrels for storage some cobweb and a small window to cool down the house on a hot summers day. The roof is insulated with wood to keep the warmth in the house in winter.

Hey Dynamitt,
Thanks for applying and for your patience while we found the time to review your application, we've had a big rush of builders in the last few weeks but I can see you put a lot of thought and detail into this house.
There's a lot of really nice elements, you've obviously explored the breadth of our custom blocks and put some thought into how to reflect our building styles.

I've got a few points of feedback that might help on future builds:
- Overall I like the shape and features of the house, there's a good consistency to the blocks used and you've added a lot of nice details.
- We try not to use too much glass in typical houses as it was still a bit of a luxury item in those days so we try to limit it's use to high class/rich houses. Depending on the project's building style you can often just keep the window open with some shutters on the side or use the timber window frames.

- Trap doors are best just used as trap doors, since they can be toggled by default, so it's best to use our varieties of half door blocks.
- We generally avoid using the full wooden logs too much these days as they tend to look a little bulky/don't allow for much variety. Instead of the big spruce logs to frame the house you could just use more timber and daub blocks, like in this example:


You're off to a good start, for your first challenge build, please make a Low Class Farmer's house in the style of /warp hawthornetown and share screenshots of it in this thread. Take note of commonalities between the houses (block mix, shape of roof, size of house, interior blocks, attic spaces, mezzanine platforms) and make a house that would fit into the Hawthorne town.

Ok thanks for the reply, it's quite ok that it took some time I understand. And I agree actually that glass would not fit more in with the rest of the builds on the server. I was just wondering, is there a time it's due to get delivered or do I have practically infinite amounts of time?
I'll get on the build immediately.
