Hey AuntDestroyer,

Thanks for the application, and glad to see your interest in joining the team after seeing your name around as a guest for a while! :)

Nice work with the apphouse, not seeing any issues there. I hope the exercise was a helpful introduction to our block pack and building style. I love how you seamlessly integrated it into a small village as well! For subsequent challenge builds, you'll be expected to build original houses of your own design, in the style of specific locations on our server. I recommend studying the elements of multiple houses in the style (furniture, timber frame patterns, rafter designs, etc.) and trying to synthesize them into an original creation. After each one I'll give some feedback.

For the first challenge, please make a medium-sized house in the style of /warp tortown. Let me know if you've got any questions about anything!

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply! Here is my medium-sized house in the style of tortown. After reading the original project application by Margaery I decided to add a profession to the house and The Tor seems to be the perfect place for a bookbinder. Don't mind any of the other houses, I just added them as a decoration (they're completely empty).

On the ground floor there is a little shop area and on the upper floor I added a little living/eating/cooking area and two bedrooms, one for the parents and one for their children (with a portrait of the Maiden on the wall)

Hey AuntDestroyer,

Overall great work with this challenge! You got the style down quite well, and again impressive work in incorporating it into an entire street.

The only feedback I have is sort of a picky thing, but when doing buildings with plaster, it's important that the plaster is used more in the center of the building rather than the edges. The reason is that the bricks are used to show spots where the original plaster has corroded and shown the material underneath, which would typically happen around extremities (corners, edges, windows, etc.). This image shows a very rough example of what I mean:

Anyways, for the next challenge build, please make a medium-sized house in the style of /warp Fairmarket, with a small yard. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. Good luck!

Hey AuntDestroyer,

Welcome back! I'm glad to see that you're interested in continuing with your app!

Really nice work on these houses overall, and I also like the way you incorporated some of the newer blocks. The only feedback I have is that you currently use the "rowlock" variant of the brick texture as your main building material, but this should usually only be used as an ornamental detail.

For a tentative final challenge, I'd like to see a small rural farmstead in the style of /warp beresford, along with a yard (with some veggies/animal pens/etc.). Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi, yeah I thought that the bricks looked kinda wrong (now I know why haha). Anyway, here's my small farmstead (the roofs were a bit akward for me).

Hey, great work again! Yeah, the rooves on diagonal houses can be a bit tricky to get right. It's difficult for me to see the house layout from the pictures, but the gap in the top of the roof in the 5th pic makes me think you might need to adjust the plot so the peak of the roof looks like the right side of the diagram below (this is usually necessary if you're using wall blocks for the peak of the roof):

Also, this is a nitpick, but you should generally avoid using wheat as a crop for personal yards; due to the way it's harvested and processed it's usually only grown in larger fields. Individual yards would usually be for herbs and some types of vegetables.

Anyways, I think you'll learn more as an apprentice at this point, so consider yourself approved!

The next step is to ask a moderator in-game to promote you and set you up with a test plot next time you catch one online.

Make sure to read over the New Builder guide, found here: https://westeroscraft.com/docs/guides/new-builders-guide

You'll also want to open a thread in the #applications channel on the discord server for your apprenticeship - you can just mention that you've already been approved and link to this thread.

You can start building at any open locations on the server - note that the dynmap plot sign feature mentioned in the guide is not yet migrated to 1.18, so the best thing is to check the forums for recently active projects or otherwise ask around to see which builds have open plots. A ranger should claim your thread within a week, and they will give constructive feedback on your houses for the next month, and help be your entrypoint into the server community in general. As sometimes the ranger can be busy IRL, I also highly suggest seeking out feedback from project leaders and other online builders. At the end, you'll be made full builder.

Welcome to the team, I look forward to building with you! :)

Hi, thank you for always being so quick to reply and giving me helpful feedback on how to improve :D

I am so happy to start my probation phase. Just one more question: others have opened the probation thread on the forums, is that no longer a thing or should I open them on both Discord and the forums?
