Some updated Terra plans:
I'm keen to surround the town and castle with tall pine forests along the south edge, with some lookout points to preserve some vantage points for long sweeping shots of the castle/river. I'm kind of holding off on starting the forest proper until I see how much computer handles the new 1.20 build since it gets a bit laggy in dense trees at the moment. Will see how we go.
Found some good inspiration from a certain recent movie, Nosferatu:

Your bringing the forest a lot closer to the town itself, which i get. But you could have the road in to the town a bit more opened up, with perhaps trees bent over the road to form a tunnel. Like the carriage approach scene at the crossroads? And maybe a few clearings through there. It would make sense for a lot of holes to be along that road as firewood and brushwood gets cleared by the townsfolk.

Seven hells it's almost been a year since I updated this thread.
I'm now back from big holidays and honeymoons so can get cracking on the Dreadfort properly again. Most of my work on the project these last few months has just been adding pebbles to the banks of the Weeping Water, which took forever, but is now pretty much done!
I want to focus on getting the rest of the project sorted now. A big part of that will be influenced by this next proposed change, moving the snow line a few miles north.
As part of his plans for his big mountain terra project, Jake was already planning to move the snow line (we postulate that the higher mountains he's making would create a snow shadow to the south) .
At any rate, we'd essentially just be moving the snow line to be consistent with the rest of the area and it would make the dreadfort terra a lot easier.
The red line is the guide I'm planning to follow. Once we're on the updated server and Jake locks in where he's putting his snow, I'll follow suit with something more polished.
