Yeah, they're a bit tricky. My normal wood types have more contrast than my colored ones. In general, though, wood planks would not be as contrasty/reflective as something like slate or stone.
Here's a few pictures without original wood textures:
I actually like the bit of contrast between...
We've been talking a lot about wood plank textures lately, and since I'm teaching myself about pixel art right now I thought I'd give a go at editing our current textures to be perhaps a bit more realistic. In effect, I primarily reduced contrast and got rid of the border on the horizontal...
Mimi, the winery looks great! There's only like 2 things I'd change up a bit: the grass in the vineyard area (it can be really patchy in areas where it might not naturally be) and the amount of pink flowers (it's fine to have flowers, but that's a lot of pink. maybe replace some of the pink with...
I like your plans, Mars! What type of lumber mill are you planning to have, though? I'm leaning towards water myself, but you might know a better mechanism for the area. Also, I don't think I would be able to put in the entire nearby forest, but I can do what Marg and Ammika are doing at...
Photoshop or other image-editing software enhancement (along the lines of saturation/color changes, depth of field blurs, custom backgrounds/skyboxes, etc.) is fine. ML enhancement might be a step beyond what we can allow because while everyone has the potential to edit images with free editing...

If I remember correctly, Yronwood has some hemp crops and uses the Jungle Fern (or whatever it's called) texture. Some others might be using that as well.
I'd just say be mindful of the two houses closes to the camera that appear to share a side. I'd move the diagonal house just a few blocks (maybe 2?) away to give the straight house some space (they can still be touching), because with the current plotting the interiors are extremely small.
