Description

House Bar Emmon is a noble house from Sharp Point in the Crownlands. They are sworn directly to Dragonstone. Their blazon is a leaping blue swordfish on fretty silver on white. House Bar Emmon was founded by the Andal warlord Togarion Bar Emmon. He built Sharp Point as the new seat for his house, establishing a kingdom on Massey's Hook. His lands, however, would later be reincorporated into the Stormlands, becoming vassals of House Durrandon.
When Aegon the Conqueror launched his invasion of Westeros, the Bar Emmons supported him instead of the Storm King. With the creation of the Crownlands after the Conquest, the Bar Emmons became sworn directly to Dragonstone, instead of House Baratheon, who had replaced the Durrandons. During the Dance of the Dragons House Bar Emmon supported Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.
During the events of A Game of Thrones, Lord Duram Bar Emmon supports Stannis Baratheon's claim to the Iron Throne.

Features

Sharp Point is the seat of House Bar Emmon in the Crownlands. The castle is a strong and ancient fortress, with a large watchtower crowned by a great fire that burns atop it. The fortress overlooks a small port that connects to King's Landing, Driftmark, and the rest of Blackwater Bay and the Narrow Sea.

The castle is located along the Gullet, at the northern end of Massey's Hook, north of Stonedance. Its position exposes it to the force of the prevailing winds blowing in from the Narrow Sea. The surrounding coastline consists primarily of rocky cliffs interspersed with long, wide, sandy beaches.

Construction

Work on the Bar Emmon lands began in early September 2023. The first step focused on the terrain, which needed significant reworking to align with the style of other parts of Massey’s Hook. The overall height of the land was reduced, moors were added to complete the “spine” of Massey’s Hook near the center, and the coastline was reshaped to include sandy beaches and cliffs.
Once the terrain was prepared, the castle was constructed, along with the hamlets and villages that populate the land. The final stage involved detailing the beaches, cliffs, and moors, which became the most time-consuming task, as it required meticulous attention to achieve the desired aesthetic and ensure harmony across the region.

Inspiration

Same as the rest of Massey’s Hook, inspiration for Sharp Point came primarily from Cornwall, the Channel Islands, and the southern coasts of Ireland and Wales. These places, with their windswept cliffs, rolling moors, and charming coastal villages, shaped the look and feel of the area. Sharp Point Castle itself was heavily inspired by Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland.
