What is your age?
17-20

In what country are you living?
USA

Where did you first hear about WesterosCraft?
Youtube

What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
My favorite scene in Game of Thrones is the opening trial scene in GOT season 6 episode 10. I really like how subtly they getting ready to attend. The music is great and really sets the mood everyone is feeling. You wonder what Cersei's plan is to get out of the trial and once you finally realize what is going to happen it is too late. Perfect scene

What is your favorite build on our server?
My favorite build is the wall, in the show, it is shown to be this massive structure hundreds of feet tall and long, protecting the realm, and I think that the server build really demonstrates that.

Why do you want to join our server?
I want to join because I really enjoy GOT, and building full-scale builds would be very fun, I would also like to improve at my building skills.

Hey yungetion,

Thanks for the application, and glad to see your interest in joining the team!

Nice work with the apphouse, not seeing any issues there. I hope the exercise was a helpful introduction to our block pack and building style. For subsequent challenge builds, you'll be expected to build original houses of your own design, in the style of specific locations on our server. I recommend studying the elements of multiple houses in the style (furniture, timber frame patterns, rafter designs, etc.) and trying to synthesize them into an original creation. After each one I'll give some feedback.

For the first challenge, please make a medium-sized house in the style of /warp woodwright. Let me know if you've got any questions about anything!

Hey yungetion,

Overall nice work with the challenge! For the most part you've picked up the important elements of the Woodwright style, and the structure of the house is a good start. The interior design could use some improvements; before the next challenge, I would recommend taking some time to study some of the interiors at newer locations on the server, as well as the designs at /warp furnish. Here's some more specific feedback that I have:

- The upper story of the house is a bit too small, and gives the house awkward proportions. I would recommend either sizing down and making the house single story (i.e., all stone), or raising the roof a couple blocks and making the second story larger. Also, for a normal non-diagonal plot, I would recommend using an odd width, as creating good looking roof peaks with even width can be pretty difficult.

- The timber frame pattern looks rather busy; I recommend adding some of the no-crossbeam variants into the pattern in order to create more of a structure and spread out detail somewhat. Making the upper story larger will also help with this.

Here is an example of how I would adjust your facade with the above two points in mind:

- In your interiors, make sure to create rafters to support all ceilings and lofts. Your loft on the second story currently doesn't have rafters, which makes it look structurally unsupported. The same applies to the underside of the roof as well; you should at least use upside-down stairs to avoid the full block look. Here's an example of how rafters are commonly done, using alternating upside-down stair and slab blocks:

- Overall I would like to see a bit more thought into the interior planning. For instance, currently they have some signs of food preparation (e.g., bread and a hanging rabbit), but I don't see anywhere to actually cook, or anywhere to eat. So you should also add a hearth for cooking, and perhaps a 2x2 table with a few chairs on the ground floor. The space in back with the barrels is not very well utilized at the moment, and usually storage would be well-organized in cellars, attics, cabinets, or shelves. You want to avoid overusing clutter to fill space.

- Avoid placing candles horizontally on walls, since they would not stick realistically. Always place them vertically on top of some surface. Also you usually shouldn't use more than one or two candle blocks in a house.

- I would use oak wood rather than spruce wood in the interiors, as spruce wood is a bit too dark for the Woodwright style.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the above feedback! If you're not sure about any of it I'd be happy to show some more examples. Before going forward with the next challenge, I would recommend taking a second look at the Woodwright houses, and also some of the resources on the server (such as /warp furnish and /warp gradient). When you're ready, for the next challenge build, please make a medium-sized house in the style of /warp stonedance. Good luck!
