Request: Leaf tip blocks

Try to describe all workarounds and associated issues that make it necessary to add this block in your eyes.
Relaying a suggestion by Gawain: directional "leaf tip" blocks that can be used for trees or bushes, which would be custom models that are sparser than the ordinary leaf blocks, allowing for some more variety and realism in trees.
It might be possible to vary the model depending on the leaf type too, like palm fronds for palm leaf blocks, slanted needles for spruce blocks, etc.
The biggest concern would be outdating existing trees/forests, although since it's a minor detail it might not have a huge impact.
Idea still needs fleshing out; suggestions welcome.
