What is your age?
21-24

In what country are you living?
Germany

Where did you first hear about WesterosCraft?
Youtube

What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
I love Fantasy Universes, that are fully built out and have a unique character, so you can not only dive into the main story, but also into side lore and the world as a whole. In the ASoIaF world i especially love the mix between medieval inspired realism (i study history, so im a huge fan of that) and the fantasy/magical elements. Favourite Character is Eddard Stark, and in the show i loved the (mostly) realistic battles, like the Battle of Basterds.

What is your favorite build on our server?
I really liked Highgarden, one of the best Castles i´ve seen in minecraft i think. Also i enjoyed all the details between the big builds, such as the rivers, roads, small towns and castles. It takes what i love about ASoIaF and puts it into minecraft.

Why do you want to join our server?
I am building stuff in minecraft for 6-7 years now, was in several different teams and also build commisions for servers/youtube with the build team i am currently in (Varuna). I mostly build in medieval and realistic styles, which would fit perfectly into server, from what I´ve seen. Even though i mostly build with default textures, i dont think adapting to the awesome expanded texture pack you have will be a problem, since i have used several texture packs before (for example the conquest reforged mod).

Tell us about your build.
The Building is a small farmers house, somewhere in the Reach (probably north-west reach). It is right next to a small creek and a small road. I have built it on a plot, on the edge you can see where some fields would start, that have just been harvested. The house consists of a main building with two stories, the second one has been added onto the house at some point. Right next to the main building is another stone house, that is used as storage space. Next to the house is a small chicken coop. The bigger part of the house ist built on a slight angle, to make it look a bit more organic. The people living here, a farmer, his wife and one child, are not necessarily poor, since their house isnt that small and its location is quite nice, but they aren´t rich either, so i went for glass windows on the upper floor, but also a thatched roof.

Hey Stone_Golem,

thank you for taking the time to apply.

Thats a good first attempt!
Altough the building looks quite outdated in style.
Before you start your first challenge build, I suggest you take a closer look at some of our newer projects to get a sense of the building style we are going for, and how we make use of the blocks.

Here are some things to consider:
  • We don't use full log blocks in either the facade of buildings nor as joists in buildings anymore
  • The palette of the house seems quite chaotic. Try to have gradient going from darker textures to lighter ones, so that theres a smooth transition between the blocks.
  • I like that you're thinking about the background of who lives there. But even for a more wealthy farmer, glass windows would just be too expensive and not worth it
For your first challenge, i would like to see a house as you would find it in the sprawl of Duskendale.
Good luck!

Thank you for the feedback, here´s my Duskendale-style house.
Its a butchers house, with a small work area next to it aswell as a cabbage field. Inside, the house is loosely seperated in three parts, with a small shop/work area at the front, and then the living space where the butcher would eat, and a sleeping space for the butchers son or apprentice. There is a small second floor with another bed for the butcher and his wife and some storage.

So...

I definetly feel like you took your time to make yourself familiar some more with our style.
Here are some points on what i noticed though:

- The house looks too tall. Three blocks height to the edge of the roof should be enough. (Although this is not your fault, since i didn't specify which part of the sprawl to choose. The southern parts are older and exemplify a less developed style, so some houses are taller as well)
- Your yard looks fine :)
- The wooden ceiling is made of trapdoors. We don't like to abuse trapdoors for things like this, where they are supposed to represent a fixed platform. That's mostly because every player on the server is be able to interact with trapdoors and you have to assume that they will be interacted with.
- You are just using dirt for the internal floor. While this technically is not wrong, be do like to mix dirt with gravel blocks, to get some more interesting textures.
- This kind of chimney is no where to be found in the region
- Using fences for windows is considered to be an outdated stylistic detail

I would like to see at least one other build before i can safely release you onto the realm of Westeroscraft.
So for your next challenge, please build a townhouse in the style of Fairmarket.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback :)
This time it took me a while, because I didn´t have access to my PC for the last weeks, but now I´m back and can present my townhouse in the style of Fairmarket.

It offers space for a full family to live there, with two bedrooms, a kitchen/dining area in the ground floor and some storage space underneath the roof. The family also has a small herb garden, and they sell some of the plants they harvest as a sidebusiness. The house is located next to two roads crossing, so that I was able to build three sides of it, the fourth one is empty, because there would be another house next to it.

I hope you like it, I tried to stay as close to the style as possible, while still trying to add my own touch to it and avoid just copying an allready built house.

Hey Stone_Golem,

this build looks great!

i like the details you added. Threre are two smaller things that could be changed:
- There's a chest on the top of a 3m high cabinet, which would be very hard to get up there. Keep in mind that wooden chests are heavy
- There are some exposed bricks on the floor under the desk on the upper floor. You should always try to hide things like that with either furniture or wooden carpets

Anyway, i feel confident in your building skills and would love to welcome you into the building team!
Please start a probation thread over in the probation subforum. One of our fellow builders will be your probation leader for the next month or so. Please post a note about all your builds during your probation period in that thread for further feedback.
