What is your age?
I am 16 Years old.

In what country are you living?
USA

Where did you first hear about WesterosCraft?
Youtube

What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
I really like everything but if I had to choose then the characters. To be more specific I like Bronn the best and I think the Battle of the Bastards is my favorites battle. My favorite episode would be season 6 episode 10. I think the way Got depicts the Medical Times is perfect ( except the wife walkers and dragons) but they show a taste of how bad life was back then, and it really makes me appreciate my life more.

What is your favorite build on our server?
I like Kings Landing the best but besides that I love long lake and Barrowtown, I think the North is so so so cool! I really think the whole server is a work of art I also love the mist wood in the storm lands and the mountains in the vale. I love traveling from castle black to drone from kings landing to high garden. The builders on this server are amazing and I want the chance to build alongside them.

Why do you want to join our server?
I want to join because I want to be apart of something I enjoy, I've always had a passion for GOT and I want to help create a online world of it. I want to help create my favorite castles and keeps from my favorite world ASOIAF. Now in 3rd grade I built a huge Minecraft world on my iPad at the time, I made a city and ever since then I have had a passion to build worlds and things I enjoy in Minecraft. One and a half years ago I watched GOT for the first time and I fell in love with it, I have watched GOT more than 10 times and Have read all the books twice. Everyday I learn more and more about the lore behind GOT and I want to use my knowledge to help westeroscraft fully build the world of game of thrones. I have been on the server for a year and I dream of becoming a builder. I promise I will work hard and NEVER destroy anything or disobey orders. I hope you guys can give me a chance and I'm happy to keep trying because I will not give up until I am a builder for this glorious server.

Tell us about your build.
So I built a Inn in the North, I built a huge island and hand placed all the snow to make it look better. There are three buildings, some stables for travelers to park their horses while they stay at the Inn, the second building is a larder while meat and food to keep for the Winter, the last building is the Inn. I built this huge Inn and when you walk in you have seat then eat and pay for a room. At this Inn we have a variety of different rooms from shared straw beds to a feather bed incase some lords stay here. I must admit I am much better at building the exterior of places then decorating the inside but over time but I believe I did a great job and if I become a builder I will improve in every way because I will keep trying. In this Inn I used dark wood to build it with northern carvings to symbolize the true north, and I built a lot of snow I mean a lot of snow. This Inn is a northern style that you would find in long lake or in the gift.

That, and a few other things. Read every word carefully. I would also recommend turning off the rain (/weather clear) for the photos.

Hey Nwarren,

Sorry about the delay in responses! I should be able to reply quicker from here on out - feel free to ping me if it's been a couple days.

Overall, this is a pretty good start. I like the exteriors - the snow piled up high is very atmospheric, and reminds me a bit of Bear Island. I'm not sure if the two houses on the left and right are finished yet, but if so, they need rooves and a bit more detail (like the middle house) rather than being completely rectangular.

The interiors need a lot of work before being up to server standards, though. Overall they're way too empty. Part of this is that the house plot is way too large - a rural snowy cabin should be fairly small overall, and this'll let you make more realistic interiors. You also need to spend more time going around the server though, and studying the interiors of houses in detail. Some examples of recent builds you can check out are /warp duskendale, /warp whiteharbor, /warp woodwright, etc. There's also some helpful resources on our server like /warp furnish and /warp gradient that you should definitely check out. One more minor point is that you should never use torch blocks in normal house interiors; these are more for city streets and castle interiors. Use candles (placed vertically on surfaces, never horizontally on walls) and occasionally small lanterns instead.

Once you've spent a bit of time studying the above locations and are ready to continue, please make a (medium-sized) house in the styles of one of the recent builds that I mentioned. You can post the images in this thread. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions along the way. Good luck!

Hey Nwarren,

Good work on this new house! You're definitely starting to get the hang of it. The interiors especially are a huge improvement in quality over the previous house. I do have a bit more feedback this time, including some pickier stuff:

- Woodwright doesn't use the red timber frame block at all, but rather the oak one. The timber frame pattern itself looks great, though.

- In the stone foundation, you seem to be mixing the Reach stone variants with the normal gray cobblestone, which looks a bit messy. When designing a house, you want to pick a consistent palette of blocks (usually just 2-3 stone types for a small house). Then you want to smoothly transition between them, without making it too random, and without having blocks that contrast a lot (like really dark next to really light). If you haven't taken a look at /warp gradient by now, I recommend doing that next time you're in-game.

- You never want to have completely flat ceilings in interiors. It's not structurally sound, and it doesn't look that great. For wood ceilings, you always want to have rafters - horizontal beams going across and supporting the ceiling. There's a ton of different ways of doing this on our server, so I recommend just taking some more time to look around houses (in Woodwright or anywhere) and learning some of the different ways of making rafters. The most common one is to use upside-down stair blocks going horizontally across. For stone ceilings (mostly in castles or larger buildings) you want to have arches and vaulted ceilings.

- Avoid placing candles on walls; they'd just melt and fall off. Always place them vertically on tables or candle holders (wood fence blocks). Also, use less candles overall; you just need a couple.

- Avoid using bookshelves in normal houses (including the bench blocks with books that you have on the 2nd floor). The literacy rate was extremely low during medieval times, so only high nobility and special skilled trades would have books.

- Don't use the full glowstone block in builds. We have a custom block that looks like a small handheld lantern that you can use instead.

- Make sure to support slate and thatch rooves from underneath! The easiest way to do this is to cover it up using upside-down stairs and halfdoor blocks, and then adding horizontal rafters.

Overall with the interiors, though you're improving, I recommend still taking some more time to study these in detail. Try to avoid merely "lining the walls" with blocks, but instead try to plan out your floorplan from the very beginning and arranging stuff in nuanced ways.

For the next challenge build, please make a middle-class house in the style of /warp whiteharbor. The middle-class example houses can be generally found in the south-west part of the city. Feel free to ask if you have any questions, either about the feedback above or the challenge build. Good luck!

Hi Nwarren,

Sorry for the delay. Good work on this house; you're improving with the palette and gradients on the exterior. The interiors still need a lot of work though before they're up to server standard, so I recommend paying particular attention to the feedback I give on those, and spend a lot more time studying them in-game. Feel free to ask online builders to recommend good interiors to you as well.

- The exterior of the house seems pretty good overall in terms of details/gradient, but it's too tall currently for a middle-class house. I'd lower it by a good 3-4 blocks.

- The decorative "tips" on the ends of the roof should only be a very small 1-block bump, possibly with an upside-down stair block on the end, rather than a long spike.

- The vines on the house are a bit messy and need some work. You have the right idea with using them in larger patches, but try to make the vines look like a continuous streak going across part of the house, rather than just a mass of vines hanging off the bottom. It's best to look at examples for this.

- The main issues with the interiors are some of the things I mentioned in the last post, which I'll quote below:

You never want to have completely flat ceilings in interiors.

- Make sure to support slate and thatch rooves from underneath! The easiest way to do this is to cover it up using upside-down stairs and halfdoor blocks, and then adding horizontal rafters.

- In a couple of the pictures above there's floating "hanging rope/chain" blocks (like the sausages); make sure these are connected to something.

- I'm not really sure what's going on with the shutters to the right of this picture - it looks incomplete to me.

- Try to generally avoid using dark wood types (e.g. spruce) next to light wood types (e.g. oak) in your interiors, as they contrast badly. Oak and jungle make a good pairing, as does jungle and spruce, or jungle and northern, or spruce and northern, or oak and birch.

- Overall, while your interiors are improving, it still seems like you're leaving your interiors a bit too empty, and then lining clutter along the outside walls of the rooms. Try to plan things out a bit more - rather than just jumping to putting crates and cabinets and stuff in rooms, map out which rooms serve what purpose, and then map out the rough floorplan of the rooms (e.g. "table goes here", "furnace here", etc.), making sure that the layout is interesting and aesthetically appealing. Only once you've done that do you start placing the actual furniture blocks.

Please take some time before working on the next challenge build to really make sure you understand the feedback I've given up to this point, and to study some more builds on our server. Feel free to ask people in-game for help or suggestions. Once you're ready, the next challenge will be to make a farmstead in the style of /warp gaunt. You should build a rural farmhouse in that style as well as a decent-sized yard following the style and layout of the yards at Gaunt. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Good luck!

Here is part 1 I will post some more pictures in the chat... This is burke the farmer he is a lonesome fellow farmer near Gaunt. He farms fruits and veggies and I placed some crops in the front yard but he has a acre of land. In his small house is a large thatched roof, he has storage rack for some food with a small furnace which isn't really needed in the south, He has no wife or kids he has a little living room with a queen bed and a sitting area. Burke has been a huge supporter of King Joffrey he once took a trip to the capital and saw the prince Joffrey at the time, I made rafters for the roof... I relly enjoyed this challenge I took 2 hours to study houses then built this house... I am super excited for my next build/ challenge... have a great day I am so happy to be working my way up to a Westeroscraft builder...
