What is your Minecraft username?
e11ieefant

What is your age?
17-20

In what country are you living?
Wyoming, United States (US Mountain Standard Time, UTC -7)

Where did you first hear about WesterosCraft?
Searched online

What do you like the most about GoT/ASoIaF?
Arya and Tyrion are probably my favorite characters, they were constantly misunderstood and treated like shit, but they persevered with only their wits to back them. Brienne of Tarth is another one of my favorites, I love characters that are unapologetically themselves.

What is your favorite build on our server?
My favorite build would have to be Highgarden, the perfect circle (as far as Minecraft circles go lol) with the maze and it's just proportionately beautiful. A close second is the wall, which had the biggest "wow factor" by a landslide my jaw literally dropped when I first saw it.

Why do you want to join our server?
I've been playing Minecraft on and off with my family since it first came out. Now I'm a college student with a surprising amount of free time. I binge-watched all eight seasons of GOT in just a few weeks and I've started reading the books, so far the books seem to go in much further depth than the show which is exciting! Since I watched GOT fairly recently, it's still very fresh on my mind. I'm also a perfectionist and I love focusing on details.

Did you follow the application rules?
You know nothing, Jon Snow

Hey Ellie! Seems like you are missing OptiFine. It's not included in our server modpack but it's still needed for it to properly run, at least for now. It will significantly improve the look of your house and our builds when you see them. I don't know which launcher you are using to access our server but in our Getting Started guides you can find how to properly install OptiFine under any of the recommended launcher options. It's pretty easy, just be careful with the skechy links and pop up windows that may appear when you click the download link. Here you can see how the build looks with optifine installed:

With this build we hope you catched some of the techniques and ways we have of building here. Now your task will be to build other houses in the style of different locations in our server, but this time instead of copying you will have to come up with a design of your own based on the characteristics of the area we tell you.

Your next challenge will be to build a house in the style of /warp Kerseyford, with a yard. Once you are done you can upload some screenshots here and I will evaluate them as soon as I can. Have fun!

Thanks, Azulejo!
I got Optifine figured out last night, so there shouldn't be any more issues there. I'll get started on the next build!

Great houses Ellie! I can see the attention to detail and perfectionism you mentioned on your application! I quite like how you integrated both builds into their surroundings. Now I will give you some feedback:
  • As a general comment, I think the houses are juuuust a bit tiny. They would benefit from a bit more space, specially the brown slate one.
  • When doing dirt floors, stone or plaster ones, among many others, try doing a gradient, instead of distributing the blocks more or less randomly. Gradients are one the key elements of our building style, you will soon realize. The idea is that, for the most part, blocks on the opposite side of the gradient don't touch each other. This creates a smooth and seamless look. Here is an example of a dirt floor gradient for a mud patch:

  • Though you can use wall blocks for doing yard walls, Kerseyford uses full blocks, for the most part. It's not wrong using wall blocks, so take this as a small note.
  • Blocks like peat or pine needles aren't really suited for interior flooring, they wouldn't be very pleasent to walk on hehehehe. A mixture based on dirt and gravel is usually good for most buildings when doing dirt floors.
  • Try not to mix dark and light thatch on the same building (in this case its floors). They clash a bit too much. You can keep one or the other.
  • When using blocks that have the same texture on 4 sides, but realistically shouldn't (like cabinets) you are meant to cover all the sides minus one. You can either enbed the block on a wall, take advantage of other structural/decorative bit of your building to hide it or, in case it's at the open, use a half door at the side, like this:

  • Regarding the cabinets, you used many of them around the build, specially glass cabinets. Glass in the Middle Ages is an expensive and scarce material that wouldn't be widly available. Some houses and shop on a village of the Reach wouldn't really have much glass furniture. Since you made an apothecary you can keep one or two glass cabinets, not many more. Using simpler storage options would be best. In general, be conscious of the class of a building when furnishing.
  • Don't forget to add rafters inside, something needs to sustain the top floor! The most common way we have of representing them is alternating stairs and slabs in order to create the illusion of wood beams spaming across. They should always spam across the short side of the house. They are cheaper and more study that way.

Hopefully this isn't an overwhelming amount of information hahahaha. It may seem like a lot but a great deal of it are details and stem from the way we have of buidling here vs what's usually seen in regular Minecraft. With time (little, be sure) you will catch on most of these points and do them withouth much thought. Overall yout builds where quite nice and I see lots of potential! Keep it up! For your next challenge go to /warp OAtown and build a house with a profession and a yard. Good luck and have fun!
