The Spring 2023 edition of The Rookery is now out! Take a look to see the latest builds, guides, progress and development updates on the upcoming 1.18.2 switch. You can read it here:
We've known for a long time that the autumnal stretch actually goes all the way to Queenscrown in The Gift. Why we've got snow and ice covering part of the map is because of the rule of cool as well as to give some build diversity. The North is as large as most of the other kingdoms combined...
Mostly its a matter of aesthetics scale. We can't build a 1:1 mander mouth. That'd take up half our reach. because of that, we need the structures immediately next to it to not reduce its scale in perspective. I'm fine with horizontal size being large, just not heaps of verticality.
What I didn't have time to type was that gulltown peninsula is probably all glacier carved materials without volcanic activity. Imo it's what's left of the southern wall of the Vale of Aren't after a huge glacier carved it out. The lateral and terminal morraines forming part of the strata...
Points of volcanic activity throughout Westeros are quite scattered. We know of one in Dorne, the North, the Crownlands and the Vale (?) as well as two Beyond the Wall. Otherwise, we don't get much mention of volcanoes. In the past 8 thousand years there has only been 1 event that could possibly...
If people are after the panel texture though perhaps we could do what happens with wood planks. The slabs are connected texture while the blocks don't connect as well?
Imo lets just take it as a V shape in terms of how it would look from a birdseye view? straight walls with little to no flow into it from other valleys, but still a U shape if you looked along it horizontally?
Just to jump off this, roads are brilliant. Map out where you want them roughly. Don't worry about their exact forms yet.
However, when it comes to starting different areas, I'd say work on making the tip of the peninsula and work your way inland. do the hamlet there and its surrounds. It'll...
Hi Kuhl,
Its looking good proportion wise but I've got a few notes
-For rafters, try and have the 'beams' of the stair block a bit further apart from each other. having a slab-stair-slab pattern works nicely, just keep it sensible and neat and it'll look good.
-Also I like the idea of the...
Perhaps there could be some houses or settlements to the north to somewhat blend Antlers with the style of maidenpools agricultural areas? This could help reduce the walled garden effect that can be created by having forest enclosed projects and have the styles 'bleed' along the roads between...
Also sheep can be ran through the forest as they'll eat pretty much anything they can digest. They particularly love flowers in my experience. In my little sheep distribution head canon, this is an area where you'd get a mixture of different breeds and specialisations.
Here you could have...
Heya Dany, just checking in with you how the project and its terra is going and offering a bit of feedback so far on Willum. I see that you’ve got some streams plotted out. Do you need a hand shaping the terrain to work best with that?
My main feedback so far is that a lot of the roads seem...
Congratulations!!! That's amazing and enjoy as much time as you can with your family! There's no time requirement on this so do challenges as you're available. Absolutely no stress and I wish you all the best!
Sorry for all the exclamation marks : P!
Imo not all of them are too valuable or at least not for every colour. The ornate tiles are too much imo and some of the forms could be refined with the smaller tiles.
Ooooo I'm loving the idea of wide streets instead of squares. That's be fun and we could do some really cool arcades. Plus, these would allow for more changes in elevation without looking weird
I'd honestly love the Gull tower to be within the city itself, kinda like the idea that Howy had for Whitehead in weeping town. A fortress within the city but not a huge one, with the city growing around it.
Could this be done? With the external lands on the southern spur what they have...
I did mean anchorage for anything except v small barges and fishing craft. Definitely not warships.
Also no, orange is only the crofts. The holdfasts are the towers of maroon, just three of them. Your earlier map had two very close togethwr, and just next to the vassal. This doesn’t make sense...
Rectangular shingles with a rounded bottom would produce a nice effect. I believe this might be a good time to bring back Tham’s amazing shingle tests. This is something we’ve discussed on and off on for years. Might be good to decide whether or not we’re going to get this done after the update...
Perhaps it could be a similar tone to the brown large sandstone bricks? Some have experimented with using them as roof tiles in test but they're too odd a shape
